Legacy of Justice
Hirabayashi Place, named after civil rights hero, Gordon Hirabayashi, includes 96 units of low-income housing and a childcare center. The project marks an important corner of Nihonmachi (the historic Japantown) in Seattle’s Chinatown International District. Thanks to the efforts of many community members, education and public art installations in, on, and around the building, share about Gordon Hirabayashi in the context of the local Japanese American community’s struggles for justice – a story that is all too relevant today.
